A compact building of four storeys of general exhibition floors, punctuated by towers and halls within containing specific study collections.
The facades are bronze, with a textual density and colour analogous to the detail of the adjacent stone and cast-iron museum by Fowkes. Natural light into the building is carefully controlled, with particular windows on each floor giving views of the city and filtered light from above giving a glow to the ceilings of the study collection towers.
