Bloomberg HQ
The Bloomberg European Headquarters occupies the south side of Finsbury Square in the City of London in two adjacent buildings. Sir Gilbert Scott’s Neoclassical Citigate house - originally a gentleman’s club from the 1920s - and a 90s speculative office by Foster and partners. In 1997 the two buildings were connected and an extensive internal fit-out was carried out by Powell-Tuck Architects. Bloomberg provide financial information through the screens they lease to financial services companies.

Entering the building through the main entrance of the older building one is greeted by a huge video wall and views into the television studios on the ground floor. From here elevators ascend to the reception which is actually a large 24 hour café that dispenses free food to employees and acts as a social hub. Screens are everywhere, including the lifts, pumping out the latest financial information in several different languages.

The office areas for information gathering and support are fairly typical for city financial services with a dense plan of system desks lending the offices a corporate air. Glass is used extensively in partitions for meeting and hi-tech video conferencing rooms and large tropical fish tanks are used as space dividers.

Bloomberg’s support for the arts is visible in the active programme of arts and design installations. An area is reserved on each floor for furniture and inhabitable sculptures by young designers. The atrium in the new building is often used for larger installations and a dedicated contemporary art gallery, Bloomberg Space, faces onto Finsbury Square.
