| The old Post Office sorting
office between New Oxford Street and High Holborn was once the West Central
District office on the Post Office underground
railway line. This six mile line runs from Paddington to Whitechapel
and carried mail accross London from the nineteen twenties until its closure
in 2003.
The sorting office closed 12-15 years ago and links between the building and railway were sealed. It has remained empty since this time although The British Museum did once have plans to convert the building into an open museum store. The Arts Council England National Office will occupy the first floor of this building accessble from a dedicated entrance at street level. --> View site plan |
